uPVC and composite door repairs in Tankersley

Is your uPVC door difficult to lock? You may need to lift the handle several times, struggle to turn the key or find the door jammed shut. We deal with these problems regularly.

Most modern uPVC and composite doors use a multipoint locking mechanism. Over time, the gearbox can wear out. The door can also drop out of alignment, putting extra strain on the locking parts.

We regularly repair:

• uPVC doors that won’t open or lock
• Composite doors with faulty gearboxes
• Failed ERA, Yale, GU and Winkhaus mechanisms
• Dropped doors and stiff locking handles
• Broken multipoint locks and jammed doors
• Faulty thumbturn cylinders and door handles

Our mobile workshop carries a wide range of replacement parts, so we can complete most repairs on the first visit.

Door lock replacement and security upgrades

Not every faulty door needs a completely new locking mechanism. Sometimes, we only need to replace the gearbox, cylinder or handles. At KeyEdge Locksmiths, we inspect the fault and recommend the most cost-effective repair. We won’t replace parts unnecessarily.

We also supply and fit Ultion anti-snap locks. These include thumbturn versions that let you unlock the door from inside without a key.

What is lock snapping?

Lock snapping is a method burglars use to attack certain euro-cylinder locks fitted to uPVC and composite doors.

A TS007 3-star anti-snap cylinder offers greater protection against this type of attack. We can assess your existing locks and recommend suitable security upgrades.

Recent locksmith work in Tankersley – ERA gearbox and Ultion lock replacement

We recently visited a property in Tankersley after the customer found they could no longer lock their entrance door securely.

The property was around eight years old. Its entrance door had an ERA multipoint locking mechanism.

We identified a failed ERA gearbox, replaced it and serviced the door. We then checked that the locking mechanism worked correctly.

During the repair, we also found that the existing thumbturn cylinder was becoming difficult to turn.

To address this problem, we recommended replacing the original cylinder with an Ultion high-security thumbturn lock.

The new lock was easier to operate from inside and improved the door’s security.

We fixed both faults during the same visit, leaving the customer with a door that locked and unlocked smoothly again.

Frequently asked questions about locksmith services in Tankersley

Why has my door suddenly stopped locking?

A faulty gearbox, broken multipoint mechanism or poor door alignment can stop a door from locking. We can inspect the fault and advise whether it needs an adjustment or a replacement part.

Can you replace just the gearbox on my door?

Yes. If the rest of the multipoint mechanism is in good condition, replacing the gearbox is often the most economical repair. However, we may recommend a complete replacement if the mechanism is badly worn.

Can you replace a stiff thumbturn lock?

Yes. A stiff thumbturn may have a worn or faulty cylinder. We can fit a suitable replacement, including a high-security Ultion option.
